The greatest sacrifice you must pay as a believer part 2

The Greatest Sacrifice You Must Pay as a Believer (Part 2)

In the first part, we explored the concept of sacrifice in the life of a believer, emphasizing that the greatest sacrifice involves full devotion, surrender, and a broken spirit before God. In this second part, we will go deeper into the practical applications of this sacrifice and the challenges believers may face in fully committing themselves to God's purpose.

1. The Cost of True Discipleship

Jesus never hid the truth that following Him requires sacrifice. In Luke 9:23, He said:

"If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me."

This means that true believers must be ready to:

  • Deny themselves – Setting aside personal desires and ambitions to seek God's will.
  • Take up their cross – Facing trials, persecutions, and difficulties for the sake of Christ.
  • Follow Jesus – Walking in obedience even when the path is difficult.

Jesus emphasized this again in Luke 14:26-27, stating that anyone who loves their family, possessions, or even their own life more than Him is not worthy of being His disciple. This shows that the greatest sacrifice a believer must pay is absolute commitment to God above all else.

2. The Sacrifice of Comfort and Worldly Pleasures

One of the most difficult sacrifices believers must make is the willingness to let go of worldly comforts and sinful pleasures. The Apostle John warns in 1 John 2:15-17:

"Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him."

This means:

  • Prioritizing spiritual growth over material success.
  • Saying "no" to sin, even when it is tempting.
  • Avoiding ungodly influences that weaken faith.

Many believers struggle with this because the world constantly offers distractions that pull people away from God. However, Jesus assured that those who seek God's kingdom first will receive all they need (Matthew 6:33).

3. The Sacrifice of Relationships

Another difficult sacrifice is letting go of relationships that do not align with God's will. Abraham demonstrated this when God told him to leave his family and homeland (Genesis 12:1-4). Later, he was even asked to sacrifice his son Isaac as a test of faith (Genesis 22).

As believers, we may be called to:

  • Let go of friendships or relationships that lead us away from God.
  • End partnerships that compromise our faith.
  • Be prepared for rejection from family or society for choosing Christ.

While these sacrifices can be painful, God always replaces them with something greater. Jesus promised in Mark 10:29-30 that whoever gives up relationships or possessions for His sake will receive much more in this life and in eternity.

4. The Sacrifice of Personal Desires for God’s Purpose

Many people have dreams, ambitions, and goals they want to achieve. However, true believers must be willing to surrender everything to God's will. Jesus Himself demonstrated this in the Garden of Gethsemane when He prayed:

"Father, if you are willing, take this cup from me; yet not my will, but yours be done." (Luke 22:42)

This means:

  • Trusting God's plan, even when it contradicts personal ambitions.
  • Being willing to change career paths, relocate, or serve in unexpected ways.
  • Accepting suffering and trials as part of God's refining process.

Many great men and women of faith had to give up personal ambitions to fulfill God’s purpose. Moses left the riches of Egypt, Paul abandoned his prestigious position as a Pharisee, and countless missionaries have left everything behind to spread the gospel.

5. The Ultimate Sacrifice: A Life Fully Surrendered to Christ

The greatest sacrifice a believer must pay is a life fully surrendered to Christ. This means:

  • Obedience to God's Word – Even when it is difficult.
  • Complete trust in God's plan – Even when it doesn’t make sense.
  • A heart that loves God above all else – Even more than family, career, or dreams.

Romans 8:17 reminds us that if we suffer with Christ, we will also be glorified with Him. The sacrifices believers make on earth are temporary, but the rewards in eternity are everlasting.

Conclusion: Is the Sacrifice Worth It?

Many people wonder, "Is sacrificing for Christ really worth it?" The answer is a resounding YES! Jesus Himself promised:

"Whoever loses his life for my sake will find it." (Matthew 16:25)

The world offers temporary pleasures, but God offers eternal joy, peace, and a glorious inheritance. Those who fully surrender their lives to Christ will experience His power, presence, and blessings in ways beyond human understanding.

If you are struggling with sacrifice, remember that God always rewards those who seek Him first (Hebrews 11:6).

The sacrifices you make today will result in eternal glory in the presence of Christ.

Are you ready to make the greatest sacrifice and live a life fully committed to God?

Known by name or by God?

KNOWN BY NAME OR KNOWN BY GOD Lessons From a Trending Controversy and the Christian Race In recent times, social media has once again been set ablaze by the controversy surrounding Blord and VeryDarkMan ( VDM)—a dispute that has sparked arguments about identity, ownership, legality, and recognition. Many people have chosen sides. Others have simply watched in silence. But beyond the online noise, there lies a deeper lesson—one that quietly mirrors the state of Christianity today.
